The AETFAT Congress takes place every 3 years since 1951. It has been hosted in 20 different countries since its genesis.
The first AETFAT Conference was in Belgium, and for 30 years, was always hosted in Europe or North America.
It was only hosted in Africa for the first time in 1982, in Pretoria, South Africa. In 1981, it was suggested that the AETFAT conference would only be organised in an African country, but this pattern only consolidated in 2003 and onwards (Ethiopia 2003, Cameroun 2007, Madagascar 2010, South Africa 2014, Kenya 2017 and Zambia 2022).
In 2025, it will take place in Accra, Ghana. It will mark the 75th anniversary of AETFAT and it will be the first time to be organised in West Africa.
